Allan S. Bufferd

Dr. Allan S. Bufferd is Treasurer Emeritus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He served in various investment roles at MIT for over thirty years, including nineteen years as Chief Investment Officer, and was the founding president of the MIT Investment Management Company in 2004. He was an ex-officio member of the governing board of MIT, serving as a member of its Executive, Investment and Development Committees. Prior to joining MIT, he was engaged in engineering and corporate management.

Dr. Bufferd currently serves as a Director of the City of London Investment Management Group (LSE) and Och-Ziff Capital Management Group (NYSE), as well as Admirals Bank, Adveq AG (Zurich), Boston Advisors, and Morgan Stanley Prime Properties Real Estate Fund. He is actively engaged in non-profit organizations, serving as a director and Treasurer of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and as trustee and chair of the investment committees of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and of Boston Children’s Hospital. He is also an advisor to the Grayce B. Kerr Fund, the Lumina Foundation, and the National University of Singapore. He serves as Chairman of the Controlled Risk Insurance Company/Risk Management Foundation and the Harvard/MIT Cooperative Society.

Dr. Bufferd holds a Sc.D. from MIT and a J.D. from Suffolk University.
