Gregory Matte | Professional History

I began my career as a respiratory therapist and ECMO specialist at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore after having clinical rotations there as an undergrad. My experiences in the pediatric ICU at Hopkins eventually lead me back to school to pursue a career in perfusion technology. I was fortunate to start my perfusion career at Boston Children’s Hospital in 1998 and to continue specializing in pediatrics. One certainly understands the sentiment of being a small fish in a large sea while working at Boston Children’s Hospital. The access to the latest technology and advances in pediatric cardiac surgery, and access to leaders in the specialties which work closely with the perfusion team, has kept me engaged and continuously working to improve perfusion practice locally and abroad. I published the first book dedicated to pediatric perfusion practice in 2015 and I have been fortunate to be involved with dozens of journal publications. I look forward to ongoing collaborations aimed at improving the care of congenital heart surgery patients who require cardiopulmonary bypass support.
