Research Overview

During my childhood in Albania, I was one of those curious kids fascinated by the unknown. I believe science is a calling; together with a strong interest in clinical care and education, they lead me toward Child Neurology. My research is motivated by clinical observations of care, and the interest to design ways to engage patients to deliver health care.

My research is focused on electroencephalogram (EEG) monitoring in Intensive Care Unit and advanced seizure tracking and warning systems. Our goal is to characterize patients at risk for seizures, and measure the impact of these seizures on functional outcomes later in life. Together with MIT, we have developed portable epilepsy monitoring sensors and algorithms that can detect seizures by means of autonomic nervous system, patient movement, and vital signs. We aim to identify biomarkers to assess the risk of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP), and to develop novel seizure detection systems.

With this background, I strive for academic excellence, always looking forward to learning more, and contribute to fulfill the mission and vision of Child Neurology, because we owe children nothing less than what is best for them.
