Pediatric Surgery Fellowship | Education

Fellows in the Pediatric Surgery Fellowship program.

Simulation Program

You will receive simulation-based procedural and technical skills education on a regular basis during the Wednesday academic day. This will typically consist of one of the three fellows receiving one-on-one or two-on-one mentorship with Dr. Jill Zalieckas and/or Dr. Biren Modi, with a goal of one session per month for each fellow. These sessions will utilize both FLS type simulation of specific skills as well as synthetic tissue trainers for high-level MIS cases. Occasionally, through the course of the academic year, all three fellows will perform high-fidelity animal tissue based complete procedural simulations for specific index-level procedures. The specific schedules for these simulation-based opportunities will be determined by Dr. Modi and Dr. Zalieckas.

SIMPL Application – Operative Assessment Tool

The separtment uses SIMPL (System for Improving and Measuring Procedural Learning) application to allow the faculty to provide feedback to the fellows regarding their performance on operative cases. The application consists of three questions with an opportunity to dictate case-specific learning points and areas the fellows should continue to focus on.
