Current Environment:

Our program

Boston Children’s Waltham’s Community Based Acute Treatment (CBAT) Program is a 12-bed intensive, short-term acute residential unit for children and adolescents experiencing behavioral health difficulties. This unit is located on the fourth floor of the main building and is licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care.

We provide your child with treatment and stabilization in a structured setting that can act as an alternative to inpatient psychiatric hospitalization or a bridge between an inpatient hospitalization and home. We work with families to help your child to learn living and coping skills in a safe community environment that supports a successful return to your family and school.

Our care

We provide patient and-family centered care. We use focused psychiatric assessment and treatments such as individual, group, and family therapy within a safe environment to help stabilize your child’s behavioral health crisis. The goal is to help empower your child and family to make changes that will make a difference in terms of safety at home, school, and in the community. We work together to determine as soon as we can the next best steps for transitioning out of the CBAT setting.
