The Pediatric All-Condition Readmission Measure and Pediatric Lower Respiratory Infection Readmission Measure calculate 30-day readmission rates for hospitalizations at general acute care hospitals for patients less than 18 years old. Since the measures have case-mix adjustment, they can be used for aggregation and comparison at the state, regional, health plan, and hospital levels if the appropriate approaches to calculating the measure are taken at each level. The measures use administrative data (e.g., claims data) and either ICD-9 or ICD-10 codes, both of which are easily accessible and hence make the measures more feasible to implement. Each measure has its own SAS program and Measure Specifications that can be distributed to interested hospitals and organizations.
