Postdoctoral position: Genetics of Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia in a Zebrafish Model
The Institute for Pediatric Urology Research Laboratory at Weill Cornell Medical College seeks an outstanding postdoctoral fellow for research seeking to further our understanding of the genetics of Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH), an autosomal recessive disease, resulting in inherited enzymatic deficiencies in cortisol synthesis. The most common form of CAH is a deficiency in CYP21A2 (21-hydroxylase ), accounting for over 90% of all cases. More than 100 unique mutations have been found in CAH. In Classic CAH, there is a general correlation between genotype and phenotype; however, the clinical manifestations of nonclassic disease are quite variable, suggesting that other factors (genetic, epigenetic or environmental) may affect the phenotypic expression. The current project will be focused on using the zebrafish model to study the complex genetics of CAH.
The Division of Pediatric Urology at Weill Cornell has been designated a “Comprehensive Center for Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia” by the CARES Foundation. As such, we are the premier clinical center in the US for surgical and medical management of CAH patients. The studies described here will enhance our understanding of CAH and contribute to improved patient care. These experiments will be done in collaboration with laboratories at Weill Cornell that have expertise using zebrafish to model human disease.
Candidates should have a PhD or MD, with a background in molecular genetics. Additional expertise in zebrafish biology or endocrinology is preferred, but not required. Responsibilities include designing and conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data, preparing and presenting research findings at meetings, writing scientific manuscripts, and applying for fellowships/grants. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with an outstanding publication record, excellent written/verbal English communication skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently.
Applicants should contact Dr. Diane Felsen [dfelsen@med.cornell.edu] and submit curriculum vitae, brief description of research interests and accomplishments including list of publications (published and “in preparation”) and contact information of 3 references all in a single PDF file. Postdoc in the Division of Infectious Diseases/Department of Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital
Job description
The Levy Laboratory is the focal point of the Precision Vaccines Program at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. The Program employs cutting edge technologies to understand age-specific features of immune responses to inform development of vaccines tailored for optimal safety and immunogenicity towards distinct populations. Due to distinct immunity, most infection-induced death occurs at the extremes of life motivating development of improved vaccines that are safe and effective in the young and old. We seek a skilled and motivated post-doctoral scientist with background in Immunology (experience in T and B lymphocyte studies a plus), Vaccinology, and/or Systems Biology and Bioinformatics to lead projects employing systems biology to characterize age-specific vaccine responses and development of novel adjuvanted vaccines. The project will employ recent knowledge in the areas of innate immune pathways (TLRs/inflammasome) and nanoparticle technology to identify adjuvants and enhance immune responses of those at the extremes of age in vitro and in vivo. Studies will employ in vitro modeling of human newborn, adult and elderly antigen-presenting cells, T and B lymphocytes as well as in vivo animal and human studies.
Our laboratory, comprised of 12 current members including post-doctoral scientists, clinical fellows and technicians, is dynamic, international, supportive and productive. We are well funded by NIH, Gates Foundation, internal support as well as multiple sponsored research agreements. We offer excellent opportunities for high impact research, publication, attendance at scientific meetings, and careeradvancement with graduates of the lab holding prominent positions in academia and industry. The candidate should have obtained their PhD within the last 1-3 years. Interested applicants should e-mail their CV and arrange to have 3 statements of reference e-mailed to: ofer.levy@childrens.harvard.edu.
