Survey information

Who can participate?

Follow the guidance you received on the invitation letter and postcard. The survey participant from your household will be either the oldest or youngest male or female between over the age of 18.  If there is no one of that age group and gender currently living in your house, then anyone  over the age of 18 can participate.

Why should I participate?

You have an opportunity to help your community.  This is the first national survey on this topic to be conducted.  By participating, you can make sure that your experiences and perspective are represented.  The information that you provide will help states around the country take steps to build safer, strong communities.

You will also receive $40 as a thank you for participating. Payment for participating in this study will be made using a Visa giftcard, which is a pre-paid card that works like a debit card.

Will my responses be anonymous?

Your survey responses will be linked to your address through a unique numeric access code. Your address is necessary to ensure that you are compensated for the completion of the survey. This unique code will temporarily be stored in a secure database that only our study staff can access.  During the period of time that this code is stored there is the possibility that data from the survey could be linked to the address via this code; we will minimize this risk by keeping the unique linking code on a secure server and password protected. After the Visa giftcard is mailed, information relating to your address will be destroyed. All data analysis and reporting from the survey will be done in aggregate form.

How do I get started?
