Meet Our Team | Overview

The Gastroenterology Procedure Unit (GPU) provides high-level care for all children and young adults. All of our clinicians are trained in the specialty field of gastroenterology and related procedures, including endoscopy and colonoscopy.

Gastroenterologists. These physicians are board-certified pediatric gastroenterologists trained in their field to diagnose and treat patients. The doctor that you see at your appointment will order a test to be done in the GPU. After the test, they will talk with you about the results and follow-up steps.

Gastroenterology technicians. These specially trained staff members manage all of the equipment in the GPU and assist the doctors during procedures. They also use high-level disinfectant (HLD) techniques to clean all equipment.

Nurse practitioners. These clinicians review patient records, review instructions from the gastroenterologist before procedures, send preparation kits and provide instructions to families prior to the procedure. It is important to follow these instructions carefully to ensure a proper preparation.

Nurses. These clinicians provide specialty care to each patient in the GPU before and after the procedure, communicate with families during the procedure and provide care and instructions before going home.

Nurse managers. This type of nurse oversees the daily operations of the GPU and works behind the scenes to ensure your visit is as smooth as possible.

Anesthesiologists. These clinicians have special training in the use of anesthesia for gastroenterology procedures for children and young adults. We use a wide range of anesthesia techniques during surgery — from light sedation to general anesthesia — to meet the special needs of each patient.
