Welcome to the DART Lab: the Laboratory for Digital Assessment, Research, and Treatment. The lab is directed by Dr. Joe Kossowsky, PhD, within the Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine.

The main objectives of our lab are to improve the mental and physical wellbeing of children and adolescents suffering from chronic pain, mental health, and substance use problems. We aim to understand how our pediatric patient's genetic vulnerabilities, psychological characteristics, and behaviors interact with social and environmental factors to shape trajectories of pediatric health and the effect of interventions. Our goal is to do that in an innovative and creative way: by taking our research and treatment out of the clinic and into our patients' daily lives.

We collaborate with colleagues within Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and the National Institute of Mental Health in developing novel methodologies and applications integrating data from smartphones and wearable devices from our patients' daily lives with the rich clinical data offered in hospital settings.
