Nerve Transfers for Brachial Plexus Birth Injury | Andrea Bauer, MD

Andrea Bauer, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Boston Children’s Hospital, demonstrates the use of the anterior approach to performing a radial to axillary nerve transfer combined with a single fascicular transfer from the median nerve to the biceps motor branch through a single incision. This procedure reinnervates the deltoid and biceps muscles to restore shoulder abduction and elbow flexion, and can easily be combined with the spinal accessory to suprascapular nerve transfer (for shoulder external rotation) at the same setting.
